The Missouri Western State Griffons got the best of the Peacocks as they took game one by a score of 10-2, and game two 11-3.
Game One
The Peacocks recorded four hits as a team, with Serah Shafer and Tristin Doster each posting two hits. Serah Shafer opened the game with a single to first, where she proceeded to steal second. Shafer was able to advance to third on a ground out, and she would score the opening run on the following play. Shafer added a double to lead off the third inning, as she smacked her hit out to center field. She would go on to score both of Upper Iowa’s runs, as Doster recorded an RBI double out to deep right center field. Doster would also add her third triple of the season two innings later, on a shot to right field.
The Griffons regained the lead at the bottom of the first inning, where they scored three runs. The Peacocks were able to cut the lead to 2-3 on Shafer’s second run of the day, but Missouri Western State scored seven unanswered to win by a 10-2 score.
Game Two
Upper Iowa added four runs in game two once again, which led to three runs. Shafer continued to have herself a day as she singled on a but to first base to start game two. She would once again successfully steal second, and she scored the opening run on a Taylor Sedam double to center field. Doster would then add her second double on the day, with an RBI shot to left center field, bringing Sedam home. Doster was able to advance to third on a wild pitch, and she would put the Peacocks ahead 3-0 on a Dorothy Ziebell sacrifice fly RBI.
The Griffons were able to pull into the lead at the bottom of the second inning, where they scored four runs. They recorded back-to-back three run innings in the bottom of the third and fourth, which helped ice the game by a score of 11-3.
The Peacocks will return to Fayette where they will close out the regular season. Upper Iowa will begin their homestand by rematching with Wisconsin-Parkside on Wednesday, Apr. 23. They will follow that up by facing Illinois Springfield on Saturday, Apr. 26 and McKendree, Sunday, Apr. 27. All three double headers will take place at 12 and 2 p.m.
