Habitat 500 Families

WATERLOO – Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity is celebrating serving over 500 families since they started working in the community in 1990. Iowa Heartland Habitat serves Black Hawk, Butler, Bremer, and Buchanan counties and is dedicated to building stability, equity, and hope through homeownership, resilient neighborhoods, and community collaboration. Their vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

“Reaching the milestone of serving over 500 families is a testament to the power of partnership and perseverance,†said Ali Parrish, Executive Director of Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity. “Every home we build or repair represents more than walls and a roof—it’s a foundation for hope, stability, and opportunity. We are deeply grateful to our volunteers, partner families, donors, and community partners who make this life-changing work possible. Together, we’re building stronger neighborhoods and brighter futures for our entire community.â€

Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity offers three impactful programs designed to create lasting change: Homeownership, Critical Home Repair, and the Blueprints program. The Homeownership program empowers low- to moderate-income families and individuals to achieve the dream of owning a safe, affordable home. The Critical Home Repair program addresses essential needs by providing weatherization services and accessibility modifications, ensuring existing homes are safe and livable for those who qualify. The Blueprints program offers personalized financial coaching, guiding individuals on their journey to homeownership by helping them secure loans through banks or credit unions.

Families and individuals needing a hand-up partner with Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.
