Vinton Club Names Shelter After Long-Time Member

VINTON — Keith Ervin epitomizes service to his community and because of this, the Vinton Kiwanis Club wanted to honor him in 2023 by naming the new shelter at Kiwanis Park in Vinton after him for all that he has done for Kiwanis and the community.

Keith was born and raised in Vinton, Iowa. He joined the Kiwanis Club of Vinton in 1961 and is still an active member. He attends weekly meetings and leads the singing of “My Country tis of Thee”. Keith has served as club president twice in his tenure and has served as a board member and a leader of many activities. One of Keith’s favorite activities is working at the annual Kiwanis pancake day! Everyone knows Keith and he does a great job of welcoming guests.

Keith is not only a great Kiwanis member but also a great community leader as a member of his church, City Boards, Benton County Opportunities – serving adults with emotional disabilities, Vinton Unlimited promoting business in the town, Cemetery Board, past Iowa Auto Dealers president, Country Club president, and many other activities.

Keith graduated from Iowa State University in 1956 and served his country in the Army from 1956 to 1958. Keith and his wife, Kathie, have been married for 68 years and have three children. Keith and Kathie have traveled every state and visited over 26 countries.
