An unknown number of Oelwein residents received a poster by an unknown source over the weekend that promoted the neo-Nazi group Aryan Freedom Network.
Oelwein’s Facebook community page saw several residents asking about the posters, gaining traction with many concerned about the incident.
Oelwein Public Safety Chief Jeremy Logan said the Oelwein Police Department is looking into the incident and several reports, but has no information at this time.
“Be aware that these people usually try and recruit younger kids or someone who feels they don’t belong in much of anything, and need a purpose,†said an Oelwein resident who preferred to remain unnamed. “Families should be more aware that just because we live in a small community doesn’t mean things like this can’t happen.â€
The incident comes after Waterloo saw the same posters around Nov. 11, 2024.
The posters state, “Your race is calling, will you answer?†with a website linking to a recruiting page for people to join the white-supremacist, antisemitic and anti-LGBTQ group.
Those who have received the posters and saw or captured footage of persons distributing them are encouraged to contact the Oelwein Police Department at 319-283-4311.
