West Central’s basketball programs saw four players selected honorable mention Upper Iowa Conference earlier this month, with two boys and two girls apiece being named.
Milton Cushion and Brody Wolff were selected for the Blue Devils boys (1-22, 0-16). Wolff was second in the conference in 3-pointers attempted (171), fourth in free-throw percentage (79.5%, 35 for 44) and 11th in 3s made (40). He averaged 9.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.
Cushion averaged 7.6 points, a team-high 6.5 rebounds, a team-best 2.0 assists and a team-best 1.7 steals. He also led the team in blocks with nine.
Faith and Samantha Steinbronn were selected honorable mention for the girls (3-18, 2-14).
Faith tied for second in the conference in 3-point percentage (33.3%, 23 for 69) while averaging a team-best 6.6 points and 2.7 rebounds. Her 20 steals ties for the team lead, and she shot 47 for 165 from the field and 29 for 57 from the free-throw line.
Sam averaged 6.4 points and 1.6 rebounds; she was second in assist with 11. Sam shot 52 for 209 from the field and 15 for 72 from 3-point range.
Starmont’s Natalie Hamlett tied for fourth in the conference with 80 offensive rebounds; she averaged 7.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.5 steals for the Stars (1-20, 0-12). She was 56 for 207 from the field, including 12 of 53 from 3, and 29 for 67 from the line.
The Stars’ Jack Thole was 36 for 90 from the field and 30 for 53 from the line. He averaged 5.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists for Starmont (6-16, 2-12).
