Vote for one boy and one girl from this list by 8 a.m. Wednesday, at under Sports. Winners will be announced in the Thursday, Feb. 6 Waverly Democrat. Here are this week’s candidates.

Boys

Ethan Bibler, Waverly-Shell Rock wrestling, placed first at the Quad State Classic in Maryville, Missouri with a first period fall and a pair of shutout tech falls in his first competition in six weeks. Currently holds an 11-4 record and is a two time state placewinner.

Sam Hoodjer, Clarksville basketball, broke Clarksville’s single game points record by scoring 48 against Tripoli on Tuesday, Jan. 28. Also added 10 rebounds, seven blocks, and six steals. Averaging 23 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2.5 blocks per game, all of which lead the team.

Girls

Macy Tiedt, W-SR wrestling, picked up three falls on Friday, Jan. 31 to finish first and qualify for the state tournament in Mason City at regional wrestling. Will enter her third state tournament in three years with a 37-13 record.

Addison Buseman, Janesville wrestling, was runner-up at 110 pounds and qualified for state at the East Buchanan 1A qualifier on Friday, Jan. 31. The sophomore who previously wrestled in the combined program with W-SR become the first girl to qualify from Janesville. The school restarted its wrestling program this year for the first time in many years, and girls wrestling was only sanctioned in recent years.
