CEDAR RAPIDS, IA—Families seeking an innovative and academically rigorous education option in Cedar Rapids are invited to attend the Cedar Rapids Prep Virtual Open House on Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
This online informational session will provide an in-depth look at Cedar Rapids Prep, a new tuition-free public charter school opening in August 2025. The school will serve 6th and 7th graders in its first year, offering a college-preparatory curriculum and a supportive learning environment designed to help students excel. An 8th grade class may also be added if there is interest from families.
Principal Justin Blietz, a seasoned local educator, will lead the webinar, sharing insights on: the school’s rigorous academics and student-centered approach;
the curriculum and state-of-the-art facilities; and the enrollment process for the inaugural 6th and 7th grade classes.

Enrollment Now Open
The enrollment window for Cedar Rapids Prep’s inaugural 6th and 7th grade classes is now open. Applications are being accepted online through March 31, 2025, or until all spots are filled. Families can apply online at .
Those interested in an option for an 8th grade class can place their names on a waitlist via the online application and will be notified if there is sufficient interest to add an additional grade level.
If applications exceed available seats, a blind lottery will be held, with acceptance notifications sent by April 5, 2025. Students not initially selected will be placed on a waitlist.
Located at the corner of 42nd Street and Edgewood Road NE, the school will operate from a interim location while a new, state-of-the-art campus is under construction. With advanced STEM labs, a turf football and soccer stadium, outdoor learning spaces, and an e-sports center, Cedar Rapids Prep is poised to become a premier educational institution in the community.
