The UNI New Horizons Band will add a festive touch to its annual holiday concert with a guest appearance by the University of Northern Iowa Mariachi Band on Monday, Dec. 16.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center in Cedar Falls. Admission is free, and a complimentary reception will follow the performance.
Diana Blake, of Waverly, directs the New Horizons Band, a group of more than 80 50-and-older musicians from throughout Northeast Iowa. The band rehearses twice a week during fall, spring, and summer sessions.
Area residents performing in the Dec. 16 concert include Jeff Franzen, Dennis Haugen, Lorie Huffman, Terri Meier, Richard Moeller, Linda Moeller and Jennifer Wipperman of Waverly; Ellen Day and Pam Droste of Shell Rock; Jim Moeller of Denver; Janet Castor and Jo VanDeBerg of Sumner; and Lawain Judisch of Tripoli.
The December program will include Christmas selections, a medley of familiar tunes by Richard Rodgers, Sousa’s Foshay Tower Washington Memorial March; and Choose Joy, a contemporary arrangement by Randall Standridge of Bach’s Ode to Joy.
The Gallagher Bluedorn front entrance drive remains closed to vehicles but open for foot traffic from the parking lots. Guest dropoff is at the west entrance to the building on Ohio Street. A parking map is available at .
