Both of the Waverly-Shell Rock tennis teams were in action this week.
W-SR girls, 1 at Mount Vernon, 8
For the first time since April 8, the Go-Hawk girls tennis team was able to take the court at Mount Vernon.
Matches were one set, played to eight with the condition of having to win by two.
In the No. 1 matches, Maddie Leary lost to Jordan Bleile 7-9 and Adyson Huisenga lost 1-8 to Kelsey Kamerling.
Natalie Beck battled with Lainey Kelly in the No. 3 spot and while it took extra points, Beck pulled out a 9-7 win.
Bella Feldhake, Kiyrah Karstens and Madalyn Vankley all lost their matches 4-8, 2-8 and 6-8, respectively.
In the doubles matches, Beck/Leary lost 4-8 while Feldhake/Huisenga fell 5-8.
In the final match of the day, Vankley/Tempel lost 3-8.
The Go-Hawks lost to the Mustangs 1-8 and are now 1-2 on the year.
They will host Osage on Thursday.
W-SR boys, 9 vs Union, 0
The Go-Hawk boys jumped up to No. 5 in 1A following their strong wins over Decorah and Boone and they were looking to continue that momentum over the Knights.
Matches were best of three, played to six in each set.
Individual No. 10 Benny Ramker rolled through Daniel Gray 2-0 (6-0, 6-0) and Luca Myers had another great match against Adam Brehm where he came away with the 2-0 (6-1, 6-0) win.
Matthew Judka swept Andrew Klein 2-0 (6-0, 6-0) while both Brady Willis and Luis Portillow won 2-0 (6-0, 6-1) to secure the meet victory for W-SR.
Daniel Becker got the singles sweep for the home team with a 2-0 (6-1, 6-0) win over Dominic Huisman.
The doubles team of Ramker/Myers rolled over Gray/Medina 2-0 (6-0, 6-1) while Portillo/Judka kept the dream of a team sweep alive with a strong 2-0 (6-0, 6-2 win.
Willis/Becker closed out the meet with a clean sweep of 2-0 (6-0, 6-0) for the 9-0 victory.
W-SR is now 7-3 on the season.
