Denver won the Jesup J-Hawk Invitational Tuesday, April 15 with 137 points, placing in the top three in a majority of events. Sumner-Fredericksburg’s Gavin Trask won the shot put and Tatum Nuss won the 400 while the team placed sixth (55). Wapsie Valley scored on all its relays to place ninth (44). Tripoli scored six points for last of the 12 teams.

GOLF

Wapsie Valley golf has a productive two-day stretch

Ari Behnke shot a 42 to tie for fourth and the Warriors carded a 188 during a triangular at Grundy Center on Tuesday, April 15. Aidan Oldfather and Tanner Bergmann each shot a 48 to tie for seventh and Briggs Boehme’s 50 tied him for 10th with teammate Blake Hesse. Reece Hagenow shot a 54.

Abby Mann shot a 62 as the lone girls golfer Tuesday; she shot a 64 to claim runner-up during a dual against Union Community on Monday at Maple Hills Country Club in Tripoli.

The Knights bested Wapsie’s boys, 182-195. Behnke (47) tied for fourth, with Boehme (48) and Oldfather (49) at sixth and seventh, respectively. Bergmann and Hesse (51) tied for ninth and Hagenow (55) was 12th.
