INDEPENDENCE – Nearly 650 people participated in the searching for 6,000 easter eggs at the “Spring in the Heartland Egg-stravaganza!†on April 19.
Heartland Acres Agribition Center and Museum, Independence Area Chamber of Commerce, and ISU Extension and Outreach Buchanan County all collaborated to prepare and hide the eggs outdoors and coordinate activities indoors. Over a dozen more local businesses and organizations contributed funds for prizes.
- Buchanan County Dairy Princess Devin Rawson and her family brought several baby animals to pet and sometimes hold.
- Buchanan County Heartland Kids 4-H members helped with a craft.
- Buchanan County Master Gardeners had a making thumbprint craft.
- The Easter Bunny was available for souvenir photos.
- The Buchanan County Historical Society held a scavenger hunt on the second floor of the museum and handed out candy and crayons. They also assisted with running the Bruster Railway display.
